Do your doctors accept all payment options?
Our ophthalmologists accept multiple forms of payment including cash, Visa, Mastercard, direct bank deposit, and PayRight. We also offer payment plans for eye laser surgery, so please speak to us if you require this to be organised for you.
Do I need a referral to make an appointment?
You are welcome to organise your initial appointment date with Dr van Heerden and or any of his ophthalmologist colleagues prior to obtaining a referral from your GP or optometrist, however, it is recommended to have a valid referral in order to claim any available Medicare benefits for your consultation. You do not need a referral to have an assessment for eye laser surgery suitability.
Where do your ophthalmologists offer refractive procedures in Melbourne?
Refractive procedures including LASIK, SMILE®, PRK, are performed at Dr van Heerden’s private practice in Armadale, Eye Laser Specialists. Appointments to assess if you are suitable to have Eye Laser Surgery may be made at his other Melbourne locations including Mornington Peninsula Eye Clinic and Armadale Eye Clinic for consultations prior to undergoing surgical vision correction.
Do you accept patients without private health insurance?

Yes, patients without private health insurance cover are still welcome to come under the care of Dr van Heerden and his ophthalmology colleagues at our private clinics, though there may be a substantially higher out-of-pocket cost for certain procedures. A Medicare rebate may be available for some types of consultations.

Do I need to prepare anything for my appointment?
If you are attending for a refractive or cataract procedure, we recommend you avoid any contact lens wear for about a week leading up to your appointment in order to prevent errors in your biometric measurements. Bring your glasses as well as a valid Medicare card and private health insurance card if you have one.
